Malaria

No significant malaria risk. The country is considered malaria-free for travellers, so antimalarial tablets are not recommended.

description
Yellow fever

Not required for most travellers, but a certificate is needed if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.

Getting the basics covered

Morocco is a hugely popular short-haul trip, whether you are wandering the medinas of Marrakech and Fez, trekking in the Atlas Mountains or heading out to the edge of the Sahara. The most common issue travellers run into is an upset stomach, so we usually recommend hepatitis A cover and a check that tetanus, diphtheria and polio protection is up to date. Typhoid is worth considering, especially if you will be eating widely from street stalls or travelling into more rural areas where food and water standards vary.

Rabies and other points

Malaria is not a concern in Morocco, so antimalarial tablets are not needed. Rabies, however, is present in dogs and other animals, and stray dogs are a common sight, so the rabies vaccine is worth discussing if you are travelling for longer, cycling, working with animals or heading somewhere remote where treatment after a bite would be hard to reach. Hepatitis B may also be relevant for longer trips or certain activities. Yellow fever vaccination is not required unless you are arriving from a country where the disease occurs, in which case you will need to show a certificate.

A quick visit before you fly

Most of what you need for Morocco can be sorted in a single appointment, but if you are thinking about rabies it is best to allow a few weeks, as that course is given over more than one visit. Aim to come in around four weeks ahead where you can.
