Emergency Contraception
Free NHS emergency contraception — the morning-after pill — at our Crewe pharmacy. The sooner you act the better it works, and no GP referral is needed.
If contraception has failed or sex was unprotected, emergency contraception can lower the chance of an unplanned pregnancy — but timing makes a real difference. At our Crewe pharmacy you can speak to a pharmacist and, where appropriate, receive the morning-after pill free on the NHS, without needing to see a GP first.
When you might need it
Emergency contraception may be needed after unprotected sex, a split condom, missed pills, or any time your usual method has not worked as intended. Oral emergency contraception is most effective the sooner it is taken, so please get in touch or call in as quickly as you can rather than waiting.
What happens at the pharmacy
The pharmacist will speak with you privately and confidentially about what has happened and when. They will work out which type of emergency contraceptive pill is right for you, taking into account how much time has passed and any medicines or health conditions that could affect the choice. If it is suitable, the pill is supplied there and then at no cost to you.
Thinking ahead
A consultation is also a good moment to consider regular contraception so you are protected going forward. The pharmacist can talk through your options and, through our NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, may be able to start you on an ongoing pill or point you to the right service.
If we cannot help directly
Sometimes the most reliable option is a method we do not provide, such as the emergency coil (IUD). If that would suit you better, the pharmacist will explain this and direct you to a sexual health clinic or your GP so you are not left without support. You can reach us on 01270 215837.
