Good to know before you travel
Timing matters
Some vaccines need more than one dose over several weeks, and a few (like yellow fever) must be given at least 10 days before travel. Book early.
Malaria tablets
For some destinations antimalarial tablets are advised alongside bite avoidance. We'll recommend the right option for your trip and health.
Yellow fever certificates
Some countries require a valid International Certificate of Vaccination on entry. We provide yellow fever vaccination with the certificate.
What to bring
Bring your travel itinerary, the countries and areas you'll visit, and any record of vaccines you've had before. It helps us tailor your advice.
Travel clinic questions
How far ahead should I book travel vaccinations in Crewe?
Try to book around six to eight weeks before you travel. That gives enough time to complete any vaccines given as a multi-dose course and lets your immunity build before you fly. If your departure is closer than that, still get in touch with us on 01270 215837 — there is usually something worthwhile we can do, even with only a week or two to spare.
Can I get a yellow fever certificate in Crewe?
Where yellow fever vaccination is suitable for your trip, we can advise on the requirement and the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis that goes with it. Some countries demand proof on entry, others only if you are arriving from an affected region. We check the current rules for each country on your itinerary so your certificate is accepted at the border.
What happens during a travel vaccination consultation?
Our pharmacist reviews where you are going, how long you are staying, your planned activities, your medical history and any medicines you take. From that we recommend the vaccines your trip needs, advise on malaria tablets if relevant, and explain any doses and timings. Where it is appropriate, vaccines can often be given at the same appointment. You leave with a clear plan for staying well abroad.
Do I need malaria tablets for my trip?
It depends on exactly where you are going, the time of year and what you will be doing, as risk varies even within a single country. We assess the malaria risk for your specific itinerary and recommend antimalarial tablets only where they are needed, explaining how and when to take them. We also cover bite avoidance, such as repellents and nets, which adds protection against other insect-borne illnesses.
Which travel vaccines do I need for my destination?
That depends on the countries on your route, your activities and your vaccination history, so there is no single answer for any destination. During your consultation we match recommended and required vaccines to your actual trip rather than a generic list. You can also browse our travel vaccines A–Z or destination guides beforehand, but the consultation is where we confirm exactly what is right for you.
Why do some travel vaccines need more than one dose?
Several travel vaccines are given as a course of two or more doses spaced over days or weeks, because your immune system needs that schedule to build full, lasting protection. This is the main reason we suggest booking six to eight weeks ahead, so the course can be finished before you fly. At your appointment we explain how many doses your vaccines need and when each one is due.
Can you help with last-minute travel vaccinations?
Yes — if your trip is coming up fast, still call us on 01270 215837. While some vaccine courses work best started weeks ahead, many vaccines still give useful protection at short notice, and accelerated schedules are possible for certain ones. We prioritise what matters most for your destination and give honest advice about what can and cannot be completed before you leave.
Do you do NHS travel jabs or private ones?
Our travel vaccination centre is a private service, separate from our NHS pharmacy work, so you can book directly with us without a GP referral. A small number of travel vaccines are available on the NHS through GP surgeries, but many are not, which is where a private clinic like ours helps. We will always be clear about what we offer and what it involves.
What should I bring to my travel vaccination appointment?
Bring a clear outline of your itinerary — the countries you are visiting, your travel dates and how long you are staying in each place. Also bring any record of vaccines you have had before, such as a vaccination card or travel clinic record, plus a list of your regular medicines and any allergies. This helps us tailor the right plan and avoid repeating doses you do not need.
Can children and families get travel vaccinations in Crewe?
Yes, we welcome families and can advise on travel vaccines for children as well as adults. Some vaccines have minimum ages or different schedules for younger travellers, so the consultation is especially useful when children are coming along. Bring everyone's vaccination history if you have it, and we will build a plan that suits the whole family for your trip. Call 01270 215837 to arrange a family appointment.
